Connect with your fellow classmates!
Every incoming first-year student will participate in one small group discussion in September or October. Discussion groups will be led by current Michigan Engineering students. In addition to exploring topics in the book, small group discussions provide an opportunity for students to connect with each other and learn about the Michigan Engineering experience first-hand from a current student.
Questions to think about as you read:
-
-
In what ways does Green discuss the impact of technological progress on the world and society?
-
As an engineering student, how do you perceive your role in shaping the future impact of technology?
-
Green often rates human experiences and phenomena on a five-star scale. What do you think this method says about the subjective nature of evaluating the world around us? How might this perspective be useful in an engineering context when considering user experience or design?
-
How does Green address ethical considerations in the context of the Anthropocene?
-
As future engineers, how might these ethical concerns influence your approach to designing and implementing solutions?
